Frequently Asked Questions

If there is a question not listed here which you require an answer to, please email info@resistance1940.co.uk

What are the differences between Resistance 1940 and Invasion 1940?

  • The scenario is based around an insurrection. To reflect this, starting positions are more varied than last year with some units starting behind enemy lines. The points scoring is more weighted toward characters and props than holding geographical location to reflect the asymmetric nature of the combat.
  • In addition to each team having two platoons, additional specialist units have been added such as a sniper section for each team
  • The playing area is being extended for mission 4.
  • The German forces are located at the far safe zone, the British at the near safe zone
  • Players at Resistance 1940 have the option of purchasing paint on site or bringing their own paint with them

How do we know who is on which team?

  • ALL players will be given a playing T-shirt to identify their platoon.
  • This will be worn as a playing top so everyone knows who you are playing for.
  • Players keep their T-shirts at the end of the day.
  • They are a souvenir of the event.
  • Players will also be given an armband to identify their team.  The armband must be worn at all times when the player is 'live' in the game area. If a player is eliminated, then he/she should remove the armband and raise it along with their marker as per standard scenario rules.

Am I allowed to wear historic WW2 dress?

Yes - but at organisers/marshal discretion

At Invasion 1940 a lot of players made a special effort to dress up in WW2 costume which really added to the feeling and fun of the day. Some players even modified their paintball markers to look like WW2 weapons. The Wild Geese turned up en masse in matching Fallschirmjaeger outfits.

A prize was awarded to the best dressed player which was won by Rachel [below].

Players will be permitted to wear historic dress at the discretion of the Organisers/Marshals according to the following guidelines:

  • Players will be asked to wear their playing t-shirts if their historic dress is deemed to be confusing in *any* degree. For example if a German player is dressing in a top that is Olive Drab or Khaki this can lead to confusion as to whether he/she is actually playing for one of the British platoons. Players must wear historic dress that makes both their platoon and team obvious.
  • Modern British Army [DPM]  is not considered as historically authentic. Players are welcome to wear these colours as appropriate, but will still have to wear their platoon t-shirts on top of their camo tops to indicate which platoon they are in.
  • Players will be required to wear their armbands when 'live' on the field
  • Players must wear a full face paintball mask at all times
  • SS regalia and Nazi party symbols will not be permitted. Swastika armbands and flags will not be allowed

If you have any questions in regards to specifics regarding historic dress [including where to obtain it], then please do not hesitate to email:    dress@resistance1940.co.uk     Every effort will be made to assist you with any enquiries you may have.

Dressing Up Tips

British

WW2 Battledress can be obtained from the likes of eBay but is pretty hot and not particularly comfortable.

A better option may be to wear a pair of olive/khaki combat trousers with a camouflaged Denison smock or olive/khaki combat trousers with a an olive drab shirt

Given that its august, shorts may be a cooler alternative to trousers if wearing an OD shirt!

Denison smocks can be expensive, but Belgian post WW2 versions are very similar and can be obtained for about £20 http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/ishop/877/shopscr2926.html

As an alternative a DPM shirt could be used and then deliberately faded / bleached to make it lighter in tone similar to a Denison smock.

Plastic replica British helmets can be obtained here:  http://www.sillyjokes.co.uk/   They can be worn with a mask:

British WW2 Badges and Insignia can be obtained from eBay or www.sofmilitary.co.uk and other WW2 suppliers

Cheap WW2 British Webbing can be obtained here: http://www.milweb.net/go/sabre/cat_webbing.htm

German

German WW2 reproduction clothing and equipment is pretty easy to obtain from eBay, local army surplus shops and the likes of www.flecktarn.co.uk   www.sofmilitary.co.uk

Alternative [cheaper] Options

Option 1:  German camo shirt/smock with field grey trousers

Option 2:  Field Grey long sleeve shirt with badges, field grey trousers

Can I use a radio?

Yes - PMR446 radios are permitted as long as the channels used by the organisers and marshals are not used by players. These must remain clear for the safety of all players. Use of these channels by players will be penalised.

  • The Marshall and organiser frequencies will be advised in due course
  • The frequencies used by either team and by particular platoons will be advised by the particular team or platoon leaders in due course.
